Water and Waste Compared with the last reporting period, CSL’s total water consumption increased by 2.8% across all operations. Water use has increased from the FY2021 baseline at three priority manufacturing sites – Kankakee (US), Broadmeadows and Tullamarine (Australia) – driven by higher production and activity following the commissioning of the Tullamarine site, as well as processes related to testing, quality control and the commissioning of new assets across these sites. This continued increase presents a challenge to CSL in achieving its water commitments and CSL continues to monitor its water use and review initiatives and opportunities as part of its long-term capital investment planning. Total waste generation across CSL’s operations was slightly lower than in FY2025, mainly reflecting optimisation in waste collections. The waste recycling rate increased mainly due to solvent recovery in manufacturing operations. Biodiversity As CSL refocused on strategic priorities across the broader organisation, detailed biodiversity impact assessments at manufacturing sites were not completed during the reporting year. CSL remains committed to responsible management of the environment and maintaining healthy ecosystems and biodiversity in and around the Company’s key manufacturing and operational facilities. High-level assessments undertaken in the past have indicated that none of CSL’s manufacturing facilities were in or near biodiversity-sensitive areas. As outlined within the sustainability strategy section on page 24, CSL’s DMA results for FY2026 identified an opportunity to better integrate biodiversity within broader nature-related areas, including carbon, water and waste. In the interim, CSL will continue reporting progress against its biodiversity commitments while reviewing its future approach. This financial year across all sites, CSL sourced and used 100% of paper-based packaging materials, from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) certified sources, for products the company manufactures. In validating this claim from suppliers, CSL obtained proof of FSC/PEFC certification in the form of certificates. To demonstrate its firm commitment to sustainability, CSL is working to embed certification tracking into contracting and invoicing processes. This applies only to paper-based packaging used directly in CSL’s manufacturing operations and excludes packaging activities carried out by contract manufacturing organisations (CMOs) on CSL’s behalf. Data reported is inclusive of CSL Behring, CSL Seqirus and CSL Vifor manufacturing facilities, CSL Plasma network and CSL Behring and CSL Limited headquarters. Data is not available for the CSL Plasma head office in Boca Raton, USA, and an estimate has been made based on the building area occupied by CSL. 2. CSL Plasma uses validated factors to calculate water consumption. Utility invoices were used to establish these factors and calculate water consumption for all CSL Plasma centres. Utility invoices were also used for CSL Plasma logistics centres, CSL Plasma laboratories and the Union manufacturing facility (USA). CSL Plasma uses the contracted waste hauler monthly data to calculate the total yearly waste impact. In the absence of hauler information, a factor is applied to calculate the estimated waste impact per volume of plasma collected. 3. The recycling rate represents the proportion of total waste generated that is either reused or recycled onsite or offsite. * Limited assurance provided by Deloitte. ** CSL has moved to 30 June year end reporting for its environmental data commencing in FY2025. CSL’s 2024 comparative has also been changed to reflect a period ending 30 June. Based on this change and due to seasonality, the FY2024 numbers will be different to those reported for 2023–24 (April–March) period in FY2024 Annual Report. Limited assurance was provided by Deloitte on those numbers reported in the FY2024 Annual Report for the reporting period of April 2023 to March 2024.
