Over the last year, CSL continued to make progress against its focus areas, supporting delivery of its Healthier World while reinforcing its commitment to sustainable, long-term value creation. An update on each focus area and its progress is outlined in sections Healthier Communities and Healthier Environment. Information under CSL’s Healthier World section of this Annual Report forms part of CSL’s voluntary update to the market on the key material topics. Mandatory disclosure requirements under the AASB S2 Climate-related Disclosures standard are found in our Sustainability Report on pages 142–161. Focusing where it matters In line with CSL’s two-year cadence, a refreshed materiality assessment was undertaken this year to stress-test sustainability focus areas and material topics. This assessment helps the Company maintain focus on the areas that are key to delivering long-term value to CSL and its stakeholders. CSL strengthened its materiality assessment approach this year by transitioning towards a double materiality assessment (DMA), enabling CSL to understand how the Company may affect the world it operates in and, in turn, how the world may affect CSL. This approach considers both impact materiality – how CSL’s activities affect society and the environment across our value chain – and financial materiality – assessing sustainability-related risks and opportunities that could influence CSL’s financial performance, position or prospects. As part of this transition, CSL identified, defined and assessed a broad set of material topics across environmental, social, governance and entity-specific topics, informed by stakeholder engagement, subject-matter expertise and internal risk management processes. The outcomes of the assessment reaffirmed CSL’s sustainability priorities under the Company’s existing two sustainability pillars, Healthier Communities and Healthier Environment, and informed the material topics for disclosure, as outlined on the right. CSL’s DMA results identified an opportunity to better integrate biodiversity within broader nature-related areas, including carbon, water and waste. In the interim, CSL will continue reporting progress against its biodiversity commitments, while reviewing its future approach. 24
